MAY 3, 2022 - APRIL 30,2023
In April 2022 we were instrumental in getting Bill’s friend who got him to try the pill in the first place to go to rehab for 45 days, He is now working and staying straight according to his dad.
I have reached out to Bill’s other friends here in Shelbyville and been supportive of them and their struggles.
On May 18, 2022, I spoke to a small group at my church and received a few donations.
On Tuesday June 7, 2022, I spoke to my dinner group and received a couple of donations.
I have talked to several people by phone and received donations.
On August 13, 2022, we had a table at End Addiction HSV Walk 2022 in Huntsville, Al. at Big Springs Park. It was sponsored by Not One More Alabama. There were close to fifty resource tables there and attended by approximately 200 people. Bobby, Courtney, Mary Lynn, and I manned the table and talked to 50 people and handed out literature about drugs and addiction.
On September 18, 2022 I spoke at Grace Baptist Church and gave out a lot of literature and received several cash donations.
I have also emailed a lot of information to people.
Drug Rescue raised $1000.00 for the Special Christmas Family Project, thanks to several very generous donors. The grandmother said to thank everyone from the bottom of her heart for helping her family. We also helped a family that the father is addicted to Meth and not living with the family. There are 5 kids ranging from 7 to 1. The Mother was very thankful since she is the only provider.
For the sixth year, Not One More Alabama (NOMA) is participating in the annual Tinsel Trail which officially opens Friday, November 25, 2022 at Big Spring Park in downtown Huntsville. Tinsel Trail is a popular tourist destination during the holidays where local corporations, groups and families sponsor and decorate live Christmas trees that are displayed along Big Spring Park. Bill’s picture was on the tree.
Drug Rescue raised $1000.00 for the Special Christmas Family Project. The following is from the grandmother: “I would like to thank everyone for the donation to my family for Christmas!! We have been struggling due to my depression and not being able to work at this time and your donation put a smile on our families face for Christmas we had some happy babies. Dinner was amazing. From the bottom of my heart, I love each one of you and hope your Christmas was as great as ours. Thank you.”
On 1/16/23 I met with a friend and her friend whose 43 yr old daughter who lives in Massachusetts has an addiction but won’t admit it or get help. I am working with her to do an intervention, and this is what she said about the info I have given her on Addiction: “I’ve been reading all the information you gave me, and I have to say it has helped me so so much.
The anger I've been holding toward my daughter for the mess she has left behind in the wake of her addiction has changed. I understand better now from your information, and I pray I can now have a constructive conversation with her instead of a shouting match which has led to only further separation. “
On 1/18/23 I was invited to join the Bedford County Health Council. There is a division for Substance abuse. I happened to sit with a group of wonderful ladies from the Shelbyville Community Clinic. I made some very good contacts at the meeting to further our mission. I reconnected with the man who is now the mayor of Shelbyville.
On 1/25/23 I attended a meeting of the Shelbyville Coalition of Nonprofits. I was given a few minutes to tell of Drug Rescue’s mission. I was sitting at the table with the same ladies from the Shelbyville Community clinic. God knows where to put you at the right time. As soon as I sat down, one of the ladies handed me a check for a donation. I just received a check from another one who said she plans to donate monthly. I reconnected with another friend who is a Bedford County Commissioner, and she is thinking of ways to help Drug Rescue. I met the person who does MRT (Moral Reconation Therapy) at the jail for those with drug problems. He is going to put me in contact with a person who is interested in implementing it with a preventative section in the school system. The director of the Chamber of Commerce informed us of the Color Dash that will be on May 6,2023. She invited all non-profits to set up displays at no charge on the square where the race will start and end.
On 1/29/23 I was asked to speak at Shiloh Outreach Church. I received much support and numerous cash donations.
On Feb 23/23, I set up a website for Drug Rescue: drugrescue.org please check it out.
I worked with a lady whose foster son was getting out of jail and together we were able to find rehab facilities for him that would not charge. He got out of jail and wouldn’t go to either. She has lost all contact with him.
The lady’s daughter in Massachusetts’s daughter is currently in a recovery program. Pray she continues. This is her recommendation on Alignable.
Bonnie Cady is a great reference point for anyone searching for support dealing with a loved ones addiction. Through Bonnie's experience and knowledge, she gave insight into addiction I hadn't considered. After advice and a guide, I was able to connect to my daughter and I'm so happy to say she is off the streets and getting the help she needs."
On Feb 27/23, I visited the Bedford Co. jail this past Monday night to observe the MRT training. It is a 12-step program for people who are incarcerated and want to recover from substance abuse. There were 15 young women that came to the class. One of the women I knew when she was 5 years old (a beautiful child). Her uncle worked for me and lived in the farmhouse, and she would come visit. She is finishing up her 12 steps and told her life story. When she was 13 she was sexually abused by her mother’s boyfriend. Her mother didn’t believe her. She started using at 14. She had a son at 17. He is now 17 and doesn’t have anything to do with her. He was raised by his paternal grandparents. She has been in and out of jail most of her life for drugs and stealing to buy the drugs. She want to turn her life around. I told her I would find her rehab when she gets out of jail soon. She said she wants a job but doesn’t know what she can do. All the other young women have similar stories. I couldn’t get to sleep that night thinking of all the devastation that drugs have caused. And it is happening all over our country.
On March 5, I spoke at Grace Baptist Church, I had the entire message.
On March 19, Grace Baptist had a special offering for Drug Rescue of $2173.
On March 22, we received the first shipment of Drug Rescue T-shirts and are already selling them.
On April 3, I toured the Brooks Healing Center in Normandy and had a good conversation with Tyler Bowman, Founder/CEO, and Amanda Hunt, Business Development.
On April 11, I attended the Bedford/Shelbyville Joint Taskforce on Homeless. Substance addiction is the cause of a lot of Homeless.
On April 15, I had a display at the Benefit of Hope at Shelbyville Central High School. Dawn Bobo helped me, and we had several good conversations with attendees. We also sold several T-shirts.
On April 28, The young woman that is in jail (that I spoke about last month) now has a letter of acceptance to Adult Teen Challenge in Chattanooga. She goes to court on May 3, and if the judge approves, she will be admitted on May 8. Her name is Monica Thomas so please pray for her.
I have another request to find rehab from another young woman that I met at the jail who has small children. On April 28, I attended a kickoff dinner for an outdoor ministry and talked to someone who told me about a facility for women who have children. They can bring their children who are under 9 yrs.
All during the month I have been sending the website link to my contacts in messenger and will continue to the end of my contacts.
I am working with one of Bill’s friends that just got out of rehab getting him setup to attend meetings at Celebrate Recovery and find a sponsor.
On May 3, the young woman that is in jail (Monica Thomas) her court date was continued to June 22. Her letter of acceptance to Adult Teen Challenge in Chattanooga is still valid.
On May 10, I attended the meeting of the Shelbyville Non-Profit Coalition. I was asked to give a brief description of Drug Rescue and its Mission.
On May 17, I attended the Bedford/Shelbyville Health Council. I am now co-chair of the Workshop on Substance Disorder. One of our projects is to get drug education into our school system.
On May 26,2023. Bill’s fraternity Alpha Tau Omega at University of Alabama-Huntsville hosted The Bill Hallum Memorial Golf Tournament at Hampton Cove in Huntsville. Not One More Alabama and Drug Rescue were the beneficiaries. It was a beautiful day and a wonderful golf course. There was a good turnout which made the event very successful. I was very impressed with all the planning and hard work that the brothers had put into the accomplishment of their vision.
